Computational & Functionalism

Computationalism is the view that the mind is a computational system—that mental processes are computations performed by the brain. Functionalism is the view that mental states are defined by their functional roles (inputs, outputs, and relations to other states), not by their physical makeup. Many theories assume both and reflect a computational functionalism ontology.
