When filtering is disrupted (e.g., trauma, cardiac arrest, or other decoupling conditions), substrate-expressed cognition may degrade, yet heightened coherence can emerge: intensified clarity, altered or expanded time, stable memory imprint, and a shift in the locus of awareness beyond bodily location. ITTIA interprets this pattern as evidence that the organizing source of consciousness is not identical to intact neural integration. Decoupling relaxes substrate constraints, allowing awareness to access a more unified field mode while losing ordinary physical-enactment capacity, thereby providing an explanatory foundation for durable transformation upon re-embodiment.

Readiness Potentials as Translation, Not Origination

The well-known Libet experiments are often interpreted to suggest that the brain initiates decisions before conscious awareness (Frith and Haggard, 2018). ITTIA reframes these findings: neural readiness potentials and predictive neural signatures model measurable neural translation of an upstream field-level organizing process already underway prior to reflective awareness. Awareness marks the point of experiential access, not generation, preserving local agency while dissolving the need for an autonomous subconscious “decider,” if consciousness is understood as a field-level state expressed through the substrate of neural constraints.

According to Khasho, neural readiness potentials reflect measurable neural translation of upstream organization, while coherent persistence during decoupling events (e.g., trauma-induced unconsciousness) reveals access to a less-filtered, more unified mode, evidenced by physiologically incompatible unidirectional veridical perceptions and other distinctive characteristics of NDEs (van Lommel et al., 2001).

Structural Ladder of Awareness

Khasho says that ITTIA contributes not only survival claims, but also an account of hyper-real phenomenology and its durable moral-psychological signature. The model proposes a structural ladder: dream → waking → decoupled field-level awareness. Waking consciousness is experienced as “more real” than dreaming due to increased informational density and clarity, expanded temporal awareness with associated memory coherence, and a widened, stabilized sense of agency that subordinates dream-state consciousness.

NDEs: Thought Without Medium, Native to the Field

NDEs reflect a further scaling of these same structural features: (1) hyper-lucidity, (2) atemporal expansion, (3) intensified memory coherence and imprint stability, and (4) widened and relocated identity beyond bodily self-location. Direct experience of a field-level state with such a widened aperture—perceived as more fundamental than embodied life—rationally explains enduring reductions in death anxiety and value reorientation; an explanatory linkage not mechanistically accounted for within prevailing brain-bound models.

Deep NDEs report direct thought-to-thought exchange or immediate knowing without material transmission or symbolic encoding. Information, understood as data recognized as meaningful, presupposes an aware knower; awareness is therefore logically prior to information. ITTIA interprets this as evidence that thought and the awareness that apprehends it are native to the field-level domain, requiring neural mediation for embodied expression but not for existence or mutual access in decoupled states. This native inter-relational structure accounts for reported interconnectedness, multi-perspective awareness, and relational unity.

ITTIA treats veridical perceptions—accurate unidirectional observations from non-bodily vantage points—as boundary evidence that the locus of awareness can relocate independently of sensory channels (Parnia et. al., 2014a; Parnia et al., 2022). The model does not require maximal physiological collapse; the decisive evidential feature is vantage-point displacement inconsistent with sensory mediation. Cognitive impairment and awareness relocation are therefore separable axes.

ITTIA claims to integrate phenomenology, neuroscience data, the nature of thought, and NDE boundary-condition evidence into a single claim: consciousness is a coherent field-level organization not spatially confined to neural structures, expressed through the brain’s translating substrate. NDEs reveal structural features of consciousness when filtering is relaxed, yielding possible testable predictions regarding veridical perception, transformation persistence, and non-mediated communication.
