Anomalous and Altered States Additional Theories
Earthstar One’s “Outer Kaleidoscope, Inner Compass”
Independent communicator Earthstar One offers a “Outer Kaleidoscope, Inner Compass” (OKIC) theory of consciousness in which consciousness reflects the two-way, self-system interplay experienced when one orients to informative content perceptively, including knowledgeably, yet also navigates through active wonder about its dynamic, noise-ignorant, ambiguous-yet-identifiable parts. The resulting richness ranges from continuous to discrete, with validation (including time) and ambiguity modulating. Done well, richness exploration grants shareable insights through synchrony and resonances from the mundane rendezvous to impressive predictions to the paranormal.
Reality is both representational and a cipher.[1] Mirroring actual, shared enmeshments, balance disrupted paradoxically by otherness is the cipher of awareness. Phenomena ranging from discrete to continuous, yet centered relationally, are the cipher of reality modeling.[2] When either kaleidoscope (outer) and compass (inner) or discrete and continuous phenomena do not enmesh, distortions arise and may persist. Communication channel distortions lead to situationally-reinforcing binds of awareness and modeling, which shared reality mirrors in hidden or deceptive enmeshments.
Consciousness that increases resonant phenomena requires the ability to decipher, or at least recomprehend, so as to resolve vulnerabilities, activate wider representational capacity, and reveal real possibilities through generative means. Communication serves as the intermediary. Reality is not only understandable in immediate context but decipherable with regard to wider aspects of shared reality by virtue of anchors that range from subjective to objective and true-sense to meta.[3, 4]
The continuous channel forms and reforms existing patterns. Its functional parameters make possible the comprehension as well as generalizable parameterization of any phenomena, making for verifiable and interoperable frameworks.[5] The shared morphic base state is grounded in force-independent causative physical phenomena. In short, modulation of novelty and redundancy through three flux-level tension pairs: momentum-position, dispersing-gathering, and transient-persistent.[6, 7]
Consciousness is thus a mirror, both distortable and generative, that sees to its own repair when deciphering reality from OKIC, with the fear-prone logical consistency of a science and awe-inspired richness of diverse visages.

Wijn’s Natural Human Consciousness
Independent researcher Mart Wijn proposes “Natural Human Consciousness” (NHC) as a state of nomen-free observation in which experience occurs without linguistic mediation or predictive-processing interference. In this state, the right hemisphere functions as the primary receiver of unfiltered sensory and intuitive data, while the left hemisphere activates solely upon functional request, precluding retroactive narrative overlay. This architecture enables what may be termed 'unlimited logic'—real-time problem-solving capacity unconstrained by stored patterns or predictive priors. Unlike wisdom-dependent cognition, this state permits direct access to logical resolution through unmediated observation.
The state manifests consistently across multiple well-documented conditions: non-ordinary states of consciousness (near-death experiences, deep anesthesia, flow states), intentional practices (meditation), pharmacological interventions (psychedelics), and natural human development (infants aged 0-4/5 years before linguistic socialization). These domains share a common neurobiological signature: suppression of predictive processing and left-hemispheric narrative dominance.
NHC proposes that human consciousness is a developmental default systematically suppressed through socialization, education, and language acquisition—not through biological necessity, but through cultural practice. The theory distinguishes itself from existing consciousness frameworks by positioning clarity of perception and logical precision as intrinsic to consciousness itself, rather than as emergent properties of neural architecture. Where embodied and enactive theories emphasize environmental coupling, and homeostatic regulation emphasizes organismic needs, NHC identifies the substrate of consciousness as direct access to unlimited relational logic.
Empirical support for this framework comes from a seven-year sustained first-person study of Default Mode Network deactivation with preserved cognitive and social functioning. [Note: Wijn states that he personally maintained this seven-year sustained state of Default Mode Network deactivation while preserving full cognitive and social functioning—an extended first-person case study providing direct empirical grounding for his theoretical work.]
More significantly, this state demonstrates reproducible capacity for real-time cross-disciplinary problem-solving. Wijn claims that approximately forty peer-reviewed research proposals have been generated through conversational interrogation of consciousness-related, neurobiological, quantum-theoretical, epigenetic, and cosmological questions. These papers demonstrate, he says, that direct logical reasoning—unmediated by pre-stored expertise or predictive frameworks—generates coherent, testable hypotheses across diverse scientific domains.
According to Wijn, the theory is empirically tractable through neuroimaging during nomen-free observation states, comparative analysis of real-time problem-solving capacity in predictive-processing-suppressed versus normal conditions, longitudinal study of children's cognitive transition from direct perception to narrative mediation, and systematic assessment of knowledge-independent logical reasoning across disciplinary domains. Wijn offers that this framework integrates evidence from neuroscience, phenomenology, developmental psychology, and epistemology, offering both theoretical coherence and practical implications for human cognitive capacity, educational practice, and the nature of consciousness itself.

Mocombe's Consciousness Field Theory
Philosopher/sociologist Paul C. Mocombe proposes Consciousness Field Theory as a materialist, multiverse-based account of consciousness in which consciousness is neither generated solely by the brain nor grounded in a spiritual substance. Rather, consciousness is an emergent “fifth force of nature”: a consciousness field composed of subatomic units Mocombe calls “psychions.” These psychions carry phenomenal properties—qualia, memories, practical activities, and the informational content of lived experience. The psychion's phenomenal property is qualia, or informational content; the brain does not create this content but receives it, its electromagnetic field—generated by the periodic discharge of neurons—acting as a "glue" that integrates psychions into an individuated ego, or "I." Mocombe denies that the EM field is the seat of consciousness, claiming instead to complete what he regards as an underdeveloped materialism. Syncretizing ORCH-OR, M-theory, the univon multiverse hypothesis, entangled and superimposed multiverses, black hole Big Bang cosmology, structurationism, and Haitian ontology, the theory treats spacetime as fundamental and consciousness as emergent yet eternal.
Mocombe’s theory is embedded in his broader phenomenological structuralism, which links consciousness to psychological development, social structure, language, ideology, and praxis. The self is not an isolated Cartesian subject, but a historically and socially situated organization of personal and collective experience. Cosmologically, psychions are not present at the Big Bang; they arise as organic life generates qualia through lived experience. Upon "matter disaggregation" (death), they collapse onto entangled versions of the self across the multiverse or return to the "absolute vacuum," an endless, nonlocal repository of all past, present, and future information recycled, which may be accessed during near-death experiences, trances, prognostic dreams, and mystical revelations. Existence precedes essence, but essence persists. The framework is deterministic, denying free will—which Mocombe argues is what makes prophecy and revelation possible.

Seth Material
The Seth Material propounds a robust Idealism in which consciousness is the sole irreducible reality and physical matter is a derivative camouflage construction, generated by intrinsically experiential units of consciousness that precede and produce the brain—so that phenomenal experience is not produced by neural activity but is the fundamental reality from which brains and worlds arise.
Dictated in trance by Jane Roberts to her husband Robert Butts between 1963 and 1984 and attributed to a discarnate energy personality essence named Seth, the corpus holds consciousness to be primary, generative, and ubiquitous, grounded in a creative source termed All That Is (Roberts, 1972). Its proprietary micro-ontology posits nonphysical units of consciousness (CUs) that aggregate into electromagnetic energy (EE) units—the experiential constituents that precipitate as matter—so that every particle, cell, and system possesses rudimentary awareness (Roberts, 1977). All consciousness is driven by value fulfillment, an innate impetus toward qualitative enrichment of experience rather than survival or replication (Roberts, 1986). The physical self is one focus of a larger multidimensional self, or entity, with reincarnated and probable selves coexisting in a nonlinear spacious present (Hanegraaff, 1996).
For phenomenal consciousness, the framework inverts the hard problem: qualia are presupposed rather than produced, the feeling-tone of each unit being constitutive of reality. The signature tenet that “we create our own reality” through belief, expectation, and emotion (Roberts, 1974) renders subjective experience causally constitutive of the objective world. Its distinctiveness lies in coupling a fully panexperiential idealism with a complex yet systematic cosmology derived entirely from a single mediumistic source rather than from argument or observation (Klimo, 1998).
[Editor’s note: The Seth Material is included in Landscape in response to, and with respect for, those who take these supposed revelations seriously, and in keeping with Landscape’s systematic ambition and cultural reach to represent humanity’s broadest beliefs about consciousness.]
